The compound is formed by a collection of three separate structures: Indy House, Center House, and Extension House. The structures are connected by open-air covered breezeways, which enclose with sliding glass walls to become connective rooms themselves. The flexible design of the property allows for individual home footprints to shrink and grow over time; the structures can combine or separate to function as one, two, or three homes, and residents of I.C.E. House can live in as little as 300 square feet, or as much as 5,000. An outdoor entertaining pavilion creates even more living space, enhancing the indoor-outdoor livability ingrained in the architecture.
Our first-time homeowner enjoys Indy House as a detached one-bedroom rental home, offsetting the costs of financing a new property.
Single no more, our homeowner is now one half of a couple. Indy House becomes a home office with break kitchen, connected to Center House by a covered breezeway.
With a new baby expanding the homeowner’s growing family, Indy House becomes a nanny’s suite.
The kids have outgrown their need for a nanny, and Indy House transforms into an attached suite for visiting guests.
With children now grown and living on their own, Indy House becomes a two-room office again, for the last chapter of work life for our homeowners.
Retirement affords our homeowners free time to pursue passions, and Indy House morphs into an art studio.
Our homeowners have entered their golden years, and Indy House makes the perfect caregiver’s home – detached from the main house, but easy to access with a brief walk across the covered breezeway.
Our new homeowner has arrived at I.C.E. House, and Center House serves as the main living
space, with Primary Suite and an adaptable space that becomes a home office.
A house for one is now a home for two, with the adaptable space transforming into a guest room.
Arrival of an infant means the adaptable space becomes a nursery for the new bundle of joy.
The kids are growing, so our couple turns the adaptable space into a joint home office, still keeping
their Primary Suite as a quiet sanctuary.
Now empty nesters, our homeowners transform the adaptable space into a cozy wine lounge, where they can wind down at the end of the day.
Retirement means getting that special, personalized space our homeowner always secretly desired, and the adaptable space becomes an intimate library/den.
Our homeowners are now golden seniors, and the adaptable space becomes a wellness center to support health of mind, body, and spirit.
Our new homeowner uses Extension House as a guest house for visiting family and friends, with an adaptable space that becomes a home gym.
Our happy couple now needs two workspaces, so the guest room becomes a second office and the home gym now doubles as a yoga studio, with the breezeway that connects Extension House to Center House transforming into an open-air meditation room.
The two adaptable spaces become a guest room for visiting in-laws excited to meet the new baby, and a joint office shared by our homeowners.
The younger family members need their own space, and Extension House becomes a two-bedroom,
one bath kids’ wing, with the enclosed glass breezeway connecting it to Center House becoming a game room.
With kids grown and moved away, Extension house becomes a guest house once again – with a
second bedroom ready for when the children come home to visit.
A two-bedroom detached guest house is now used on a regular basis, as children and grandchildren return to spend time with our retired homeowners.
Our homeowners, in their twilight years, open Extension House to best friends as their retirement home, which includes a guest room for their visiting families. The open breezeway affords privacy between Center House and Extension House, and makes for a perfect spot for the two couples to meet by the fire pit at sunset, sharing quiet moments with lifelong friends.
